John Lee

John Lee, Superintendent of Queens High Schools, testified about the severe overcrowding in his schools. In order to accommodate the huge student population in Queens, he said, many students start their school day at 7:20 a.m. and eat lunch at 9:00 a.m. Furthermore, these students have no opportunity to engage in any extra-curricular activities due to the extreme shortage of space.

Mr. Lee noted that not only does overcrowding present serious inconveniences to students, many of them are being deprived of the minimum number of instructional hours mandated by state law.
