Arnold Santandreau

Mr. Arnold Santandreau, Supervising Superintendent of Chancellor’s District 85, testified about his responsibilities in the district, which is comprised of 47 of the lowest-performing schools in the City. He testified that there is a general shortage of resources, which results in a lack of textbooks, professional development, certified teachers and adequate facilities.

The Chancellor’s district has implemented the “Success For All” program, which includes limiting class size to 20 students per class. It has also increased professional development programs, extended the school day by 40 minutes, added 5 extra school days per year and initiated some Saturday education programs. Mr. Santandreau testified that these programs are critically needed in other schools, but there still is not enough money to fully implement them in the Chancellor’s district.

Testimony given on February 23, 24 & 29, 2000
